Endovascular Aneurysm Repair
Endovascular surgery involves a minimally invasive technique that accesses areas of the body through major blood vessels. Endovascular repair is commonly used to treat thoracic and abdominal aneurysms, which occur when an artery wall bulges. It can cause the blood vessel to burst, leading to dangerous bleeding and even death. Surgeons at Palmetto General Hospital perform a procedure called a stent graft. Rather than open up the chest, the surgeon goes in through the groin and places a stent inside the damaged artery. The blood then flows through the stent rather than the artery.
