Hialeah, Florida. (November 23, 2015) –Palmetto General Hospital is proud to offer its patients and the community a new cardiac catheterization laboratory that will help treat and prevent a wide range of cardiac conditions.

Cardiac catheterization involves threading a long, thin flexible tube through an artery or vein, usually in the arm or upper thigh, to the heart. This procedure may be performed to help diagnose or evaluate coronary artery disease, congenital heart defects or heart valve problems, and can also help identify causes of heart failure or cardiomyopathy.

“The team at our Heart Institute is dedicated to implementing the most up-to-date treatment options to address the community’s heart problems,” said Ana Mederos, CEO at Palmetto General Hospital. “Under the direction of interventional cardiologist, Dr. Jose Marquez, I am confident that we will be able to continue making advancements in cardiac treatment.”

Additional procedures that can be performed in conjunction with cardiac catheterization include repairing certain kinds of heart defects or stuck heart valves, or opening blocked arteries in the heart. Cardiac catheterizations are performed frequently and rarely cause serious problems or complications.

The Heart Institute at Palmetto General Hospital offers a comprehensive multi-specialty program devoted to heart and vascular health that addresses each patient’s particular needs. For more information on the cardiac cath lab and other services offered at the institute, please call (305) 823-5000 or visit www.palmettogeneral.com/our-services/heart-vascular.
