Take a virtual tour of your arteries, learn how to fight artherosclerosis

HIALEAH, FL--Palmetto General Hospital will host the Miami-Dade US AGAINST ATHERO 2009 Kick-Off Event, in partnership with Astra Zeneca, as part of a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness about atherosclerosis.  The event will be Wednesday, Dec. 2, 11 am to 3 pm at Palmetto.

With the goal of mobilizing people to improve the health of their arteries, Astra Zeneca is sponsoring a 16-city tour of its "Artery Explorer."  This interactive motion simulator will be at the hospital, serving as an innovative way to educate the community about potential dangers, risk factors and prevention of atherosclerosis.

Participants will be able to take a virtual tour of an artery affected by atherosclerosis. More than 14,000 people across the country have experienced the Artery Explorer.

Triple-Boarded Cardiologist and Director of the Heart Institute at Palmetto General Hospital Romualdo Segurola, MD, and Miguel A. Diaz, MD, will also discuss the dangers of atherosclerosis and its impact as a leading cause of coronary heart disease and stroke.

Through this community event, Palmetto hopes to heighten individuals’ sense of urgency about speaking with a physician about athero and cardiovascular risk factors. They also hope to encourage motivated consumers to opt into bilingual atherosclerosis education programs and equip participants with the knowledge and tools to protect their arteries and treat atherosclerosis.
