Unhappy with your life because you’re 100 pounds or more overweight? Maybe it’s time you got the facts about Weight-loss Surgery.
Currently, one in every three adults in the United States is overweight. Obesity creates serious health risks including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke and some forns of cancer.
Palmetto General Hospital’s Weight-loss Surgery Program offers an alternative for people who are 100 pounds or more overweight and have tried but failed to lose weight through diet and exercise. The surgery, called “Bariatric Surgery,” reduces the size of the stomach to a small pouch. The pouch, which only holds small amounts of food, fills quickly and empties slowly. Patients feel full with just a small amount of food. The reduced caloric intake results in weight loss.
Our program is designed specifically for the morbidly obese. To qualify, patients must be 100 pounds or more overweight and/or have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40. Candidates must have tried and failed to lose weight through several different approaches. They must meet all medical criteria established for the program.
Our program has a holistic approach that provides patients with pre- and post-operative psychological counseling, personalized nutrition and fitness plans, as well as vitamin supplements. We understand that Bariatric Surgery is a life-changing step that requires significant consideration from patients and significant monitoring from physicians. Our caring, compassionate team includes trained surgeons on staff members as well as program coordinator who guide you through the process and help ensure that your needs are met.
